EDMONTON, Canada—Trinia Gregory, a professional dancer for 8 years, was blown away by the Chinese Spectacular on May 6 at the Northern Albeta Jubilee Auditorium, Edmonton. "I really like the fact that they brought in the divine consciousness, the spiritual consciousness, the spiritual side. It's very enlightening.
"I really like the colour, and all the choreography in the dances," she explained. "The women are very beautiful. And there's quite a variety, there's a large variety. I like the variety of their moves, they use their whole entire body, and they're very graceful."
Trinia used to mostly dance jazz, tap, ballet and freestyle. She has danced since 1989.
"I like how they've incorporated the tumbling and the back flips," she said of the Spectacular .
"I like the traditional, they have a lot of traditional flavour, like old world China.
"Well, I don't know much about the history of China. But from what I do know of it and my experiences of it, I see, you know the old, traditional Chinese flavour. The Chinese people to me have always been very polite, very soft and gentle. And I see that come out in the ladies. You know, when the ladies did their own back flips you didn't even hear their feet touch the ground they're so gentle and soft.
"It's very graceful."
She said she came to the performance because she is always on the look out for dance companies and performances: "I'm always looking at what other people are doing. I'm really attracted to the colour, to the sound, to lighting, to how it a performance makes me feel. Because the next time I start dancing and I put together my own shows, it's really important for me to be able to create a show that will make people feel something inside."
She said the show gave her "ideas and inspiration."
